Fall 2015 Awards Winners
- Operation Snowshoe (Suzanne Sliwa – Lenape): 25 pairs of snowshoes will be incorporated into the 5th grade physical education curriculum and will also be available during recess. Learning this individual sport not only encourages students to access resources within the community, it exposes them to an activity they can practice in the future and outside of school.
- World Languages Classroom Movie Studios (World Languages Classroom Movie Studios – Jill Belgrave, Lauren O’Malley, Mary Holmes, Jenny-Lynn Delfini—NPMS): Three green screen studios will be created in each of the foreign language classrooms. Using an interactive, hands-on approach, students will synthesize written and spoken language to develop original screenplays based on Spanish novels read both independently and within the class. In addition, students will develop infomercials, news broadcasts, music videos and travel guides, utilizing Spanish gestures, vocabulary and structures.
- Hands on History (Sarah Sebald—Lenape): New York Historical Society educators return to Lenape for the second year in a row, teaching 4th graders to become “history detectives” over the course of this interactive three-session program.
- Classroom in the Field – Phase 4 (Cathy Law—High School): Further development of the “living classroom” will focus on the Phenology Trail, perennials and self-seeding annuals and biennials, and completing planting of the Xeriscape, Shade, and Bird Thicket Gardens. The garden provides a unique hands-on learning opportunity as well as a peaceful haven within the High School.
